We never acknowledge it, but we are all insecure. And I don’t know about you, but I always feel much better when other artists acknowledge their insecurities. (Is it schadenfreude? I’ll never tell.) I knew I wanted to do a silly song about insecurities, and I had written a melody and chords for a chanson-style waltz (independently of the insecurities concept). The combination of those felt silly enough that it just might work.
